The AmaLin project was initiated in 2008 in collaboration with Paul Fine (Berkeley) to examine contrasts among white sand, flooded and terra firme forests in Peru and French Guiana. In Loreto, Peru we have 38 plots in three geographic areas: Allpahuayo-Mishana Reserve to the west and south of Iquitos; and the Jenaro Herrera Center of Investigation and the Matsés Reserved Zone far south of Iquitos; and along the Morona river in far western Loreto. Plot locations are shown relative to habitat type (red=terra firme; white=white sand; black=flooded) in the adjacent map which shows topographic zones and watersheds in the region. Collaborators in the network include Paul Fine, Italo Mesones, Nallarett Davila, and several students from the Universidad de la Amazonia Peruana in Iquitos. Results from aboveground biomass estimates across this network are to be published soon (click here for Global Change Biology manuscript). |
