Project presentation

A pressing challenge for ecologists is to predict how land use and climate changes will affect Amazonian forests composition and functioning. Recent studies have successfully used functional traits to link changes in species composition with changes in ecosystem functioning. However, despite the importance of intraspecific variability on functional traits and physiological processes, few studies have tested how links between functional and physiological traits vary during ontogeny and how these variations respond to environmental changes. Our study will address these questions by measuring tree traits in three ontogenetic stages in contrasting forest habitats and seasons in French Guiana.
